Four environmental services employees from CHOP terminated for refusing mandatory flu shot
Four environmental services employees were terminated from Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) because they refused to take the mandatory seasonal flu shot. The four terminated employees had years of service ranging from five to thirty-one years.
A grievance was filed prior to the terminations because of CHOP's insistence on mandatory seasonal flu shots for all bargaining unit employees. A class action grievance was filed on behalf of the four employees but the employer refused to hear the grievance, stating that the grievance stems from the union's stance against mandatory flu shots and the termination of the employees. The Union is pursuing expedited arbitration in this case. CHOP is also mandating H1N1 flu shot.
There are over 1,000 full and part-time bargaining unit employees at CHOP.
